Microchip thermal sensors feature SPI interface

Microchip Technology has announced the release of the TC72 and TC77 digital thermal sensors that feature SPI interfaces and are suitable for wireless, networking, handheld, and computing applications.

Offered in an 8-pin, 3-by-2mm DFN and MSOP casing, the TC72 is capable of reading temperatures between -55C to 125C and communicates thermal data via a 4-wire bus interface. It operates from a 2.65V to 5.5V supply and exhibits a temperature resolution of 0.25C per bit and accuracy of 2C.

The TC77 is available in a 5-pin SOT023 and 8-pin SOIC package, and is also capable of reading temperatures between -55C to 125C but with resolution of 0.0625C per bit. It communicates thermal data via a 3-wire bus interface and functions from a 2.7V to 5.5V supply. Both consume a typical operating current of 250?A and 1?A during shutdown, enabling designers to extend battery life in portable electronics.
