Photon Dynamics Inc.'s ArrayChecker 3500 (AC-3500) generation 5 LCD array test system is capable of testing LCD glass plate sizes up to 1.2-by-1.3m and reduces test times by up to 40 percent.

The device achieves this through the use of a patented voltage imaging optical sensor (VIOS) that is more than three times larger than prior generation systems and also includes a 16.7 mega-pixel camera. The 131mm sensor is about twice the size of previous sensors and feature a polymer dispersed liquid crystal material to improve sensor reliability and lifespan.

"We believe that this test solution will help enable manufacturers to meet their customer demands for a full line-up of displays; sizes ranging from 15-inch to over 30-inch wide screens for premium monitor and TV usage," stated Bernard T. Clark, president of the Flat Panel Display Division, Photon Dynamics.

The AC-3500 performs multiple functional tests for both amorphous and low-temperature poly-silicon array substrates. It detects, locates, quantifies, and characterizes electrical, contamination and other defects after array fabrication, but before the materials and process steps of cell assembly are added.

The device offers a pixel sensitivity resolution of up to 60?m per pixel for AMLCD-TFTs. It also features an automatic defect classification function as well as a defect repair queue option.
