The ADEMCO Group, a division of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions, has licensed Franklin Electronic Publishers Inc.'s RISC processor-based ASIC to be the core of its security and alarm systems keypads.

Franklin's technology is based on a microprocessor design within a single chip to facilitate user entry, control, and display of data. The ASIC manages the interface through an LCD and touchscreen and supervises the communication with the control. Franklin is working with ADEMCO to customize this technology for new applications.

"Franklin's processing chip utilizing its own proprietary, streamlined RISC architecture is very versatile for endless applications and uses," said Barry Lipsky, president and CEO, Franklin Electronic. "Franklin's expertise in designing low-cost, efficient, all-in-on microprocessor for our own products is now being noticed as a solution for other traditional keyboard and small LCD applications, which are moving toward Graphical User Interfaces (GUI)."
