The HL6512MG AlGaInP red laser diode has a typical wavelength of 658nm, is capable of producing a continuous output of 50mW and pulsed output of 70mW, and is suitable for use as a light source for large capacity rewritable optical disc memories, such as DVD-RAMs.

The 5.6mm(?) device features a multi-quantum well and operates from a 2.6V, while drawing 115mA. It has a threshold current of 45mA, reverse voltage of 2V, and astigmatism of 5m. Beam divergence parallel to the junction is 8.5 and 21 perpendicular to the junction. It is screened for operation over the -10C to 70C temperature range.
