QUALCOMM Inc. and China Unicom, a major wireless service provider in China, have signed an agreement to create a joint venture aimed to foster the growth of the developer community and QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) platform in China.

According to the agreement, the two companies will work together to provide technical support and training for application developers in China in order to drive CDMA adoption and increased use of the BREW platform. The collaboration is expected to provide developers in China with opportunities to attend BREW training events and guidance on how to export their applications into the global BREW marketplace.

QUALCOMM's BREW platform is a thin application execution environment that provides an open, standard platform for wireless devices. The platform is part of a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless applications development, device configuration, application distribution, and billing and payment.
