NI ships LabVIEW toolkit for TI DSPs

National Instruments Corp. has announced the availability of the LabVIEW DSP Test Integration Toolkit that allows engineers to integrate the LabVIEW graphical development environment with Texas Instruments' Code Composer Studio development tool, and help identify design flaws prior to prototype construction.

"The integration of LabVIEW with Code Composer Studio enhances and extends traditional DSP code development and increases engineers' efficiency in testing TI DSP-based systems earlier in the development cycle," said Omar Fattah, eXpressDSP plug-ins manager at TI. "This ability to control a TI DSP from LabVIEW ultimately enables TI customers to release more robust products faster."

As an eXpressDSP-compliant plug-in, the LabVIEW toolkit automates routine functions in Code Composer Studio, such as "build" and "run," and communicates test data directly to and from the DSP chip's memory. Engineers can also read and write data internal to the DSP chips and can view and control test data in real time at speeds of up to 2MBps using a TI RTDX data link.

With LabVIEW's ability to integrate with a wide variety of measurement I/Os, engineers can generate real-world stimuli and take real-world measurements to compare with theoretical data. They can then correlate operating parameters of DSP algorithms with the actual effects seen on the input and output to the DSP and adjust system parameters dynamically, thus speeding testing and verification phases of code development.

The LabVIEW DSP Test Integration Toolkit works with the TMS320C6000, TMS320C5000, TMS320C2800, and OMAP platforms. Users must use LabVIEW 6.1 and Code Composer Studio 2.1 or higher with the toolkit.
