Oki Semiconductor has announced the release of the ML7074 speech codec that is designed specifically for use as an analog front-end for VoIP applications.

The IC incorporates an echo canceller for 32ms delay for near-end line echoes in SLIC connection, as well as for the cancellation of acoustic echoes in systems that support hands-free operation. It operates from a 3.3V power supply and supports straight PCM data all the way up to the ITU-T G.729.A format.

Other features include a selectable master/salve clock, sync clock, DTMF detector and generator, 640 byte transmit/receive FIFO, and an FSK generation function. It also a has pin-selectable PCM interface along with the conventional analog terminal side interface, which enables customers to reuse analog designs with new and enhanced VoIP capabilities. This feature allows designers to support both digital and analog VoIP systems.

The ML7074 is priced at $8.55 each with a minimum quantity of 10,000.
