The company has announced the availability of a pair of tunable dispersion compensators for countering the effects of signal degradation in high-speed, long-reach WDM optical network systems.
The FQ-40C and FQ-10E are designed for 40Gbps and 10Gbps applications, respectively, and are claimed to provide more than triple the dispersion turning range of previous-generation products. They also enable optical network system designers to automatically adjust the dispersion compensation function for temperature fluctuations in already-installed optical fiber, thereby reducing the required set-up and maintenance time and eliminate manual tuning of optical network systems.
Designed using Mitsubishi Electric's FBG technology and a temperature control mechanism, the FQ-40C dispersion compensator can tune the optical signal up to 350ps/nm for 40Gbps application and exhibit a group delay ripple <2ps and insertion loss <5dB.
The FQ-10E can tune up to 1,400ps/nm for 10Gbps applications and demonstrate a group delay ripple <6ps and an insertion loss <4dB.
Both devices has an optical pass bandwidth of at least 2nm, polarization mode dispersion <0.5ps, and dissipate 3W. |
