The small 0201 case size of Taiyo Yuden (U.S.A.) Inc.'s RM Series of multilayer ceramic capacitors suits the MLCCs for use in cellphone modules and high-pin-count IC applications. The series offers designers several advantages, including higher component placement density and savings in PCB real estate, the company said.

Taiyo Yuden claims that the RM Series' high capacitance values (for example, 0.1?F in the Y5V) are a result of the company's high-precision multilayering fabrication techniques.

Capacitors are available in production quantities for both Class 1 temperature-compensating capacitors and Class 2 high-capacitance value parts. The Class 1 parts, designated the E12 series, range from 0.5pF to 100pF. The Class 2 X5R parts in the E6 series span 100pF to 1nF, and Class 2 Y-5V parts are available in the E3 series from 22nF to 100nF.

Low ESR and equivalent-series inductance values are said to minimize impedance at higher frequencies and reduce power loss and heat generation.

Prices start at $0.015 each in OEM quantities.
