The FAN2703 CMOS power amplifier from Fairchild Semiconductor delivers 1W of continuous rms power into an 8-ohm speaker at 5V and is available in a mini SO-8 or SO-8 package, enabling it to be used in mobile phones, PDAs, and other portable audio devices.

The device operates from a 2.2V to 5.5V supply and also features a typical shutdown current of 0.17?A to further prolong battery life. Other features include thermal shutdown protection, unity gain stability, and external gain configuration capability. It has a typical THD-N of 0.1 percent and a PSRR of 65dB to provide high output performance.

The FAN7023 occupies a reduced board area because it eliminates the need for an output coupling capacitor, bootstrap capacitor, or a snubber network. It is priced at 57 cents in 1,000-piece quantities.
