The MAX1951/MAX1952 1.5A step-down regulators from Maxim Integrated Products Inc. come in an 8-pin SOP that occupies 193.55mm? of board area, enabling it to be used in space-constrained applications to generate core and I/O supplies for DSPs, ASICs, and microprocessors.

Both integrate power MOSFET to reduce the size and simplify the design, and also include digital soft-start, current-limit/short-circuit protections, and thermal-overload protection. They are specified for operation over the extended temperature range.

The MAX1951 operates from 2.6V to 5.5V inputs and generates output voltages down to 0.8V with 1 percent accuracy. The MAX1952 generates a preset 1.8V output. Switching frequency is 1MHz, which reduces the size of external components. The ICs are compatible with ceramic capacitors.
