OnLine Power Supply Inc. (OPS) has received from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office patent no. 6,493,242 B1, entitled "Power Factor Controller." The patent is a "divisional" of a prior patent entitled "Individual or Distributed Non-Saturating Magnetic Element Power Converter."
The new patent covers improvements in converter strategies, circuit design, apparatus, and processes that enable OPS to produce ac/dc power supplies with ultra-high efficiencies that do not thermally derate. These combined improvements translate into higher system efficiencies, higher power densities, lower operating temperatures, and improved thermal tolerance, which reduce or even eliminate the need for forced air cooling.
Additional advancements covered by the patent state that the non-saturating magnetic properties are relatively insensitive to temperature and allow the converter to operate over a greater temperature range. The patent is the second for OPS. |
