Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has announced the availability of the Athlon MP processor 2400+, which is designed for use in enterprises and research institutes that rely on software applications that need intense computing power.

The processor features an x86 processor architecture and includes a state-of-the-art floating-point capability for powerful number crunching, the company claims. Athlon MP processor-based servers can be combined via high-speed interconnect technologies to create powerful clusters for increased computing capabilities.

The AMD Athlon MP processor 2400+ is priced at $228 in 1,000-unit quantities.
