Maxim SiGe mixer fits GSM, iDEN, 3G infrastructures

Designed specifically for GSM/DCS/PCS/EDGE, iDEN, PHS, and 3G wireless infrastructure systems, the company's MAX9993 SiGe mixer delivers an IIP3 performance of 23.5dB and an NF of 9.5dB.

Available in a 5-by-5mm, 20-pin QFN package, the MAX9993 also offers a conversion gain of 8.5dB, enabling designers to eliminate a complete IF amplifier stage within the receiver. The IC also replaces two amplifiers, two baluns, an LO switch, and other discrete components. Through this integration, the total board space used by the mixer is reduced by a factor of 4, and the discrete part count is reduced by 30 percent.

IIP2 performance is measured at >60dB, thereby easing receiver filtering requirements of close-in harmonics that can degrade error vector magnitude. On-chip RF and LO baluns and built-in matching circuits interface to 50 ohms terminations.

The MAX9993 supports frequency hopping with the high-isolation integrated LO switch, offering switching speeds of <50ns and >40dB of LO1-to-LO2 isolation.
