SanDisk memory card offers 802.11b connectivity

SanDisk Corp. has introduced a line of Flash memory cards that feature 802.11b connectivity, giving the users to flexibility to store data in their PDA or laptop, while maintaining WLAN connectivity using the same card.

Announced at the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show, the Connect product line includes the dual-function 128MB CompactFlash (CF) and 256MB SD cards that combine WiFi and Flash memory, as well as single function CF and SD cards that only features WiFi connectivity. The company plans to add 256MB to the CF Connect product line by the middle of 2003. The SD WiFi cards will support devices with Palm's OS 4x and higher OSs.

The Connect cards allow WiFi devices to transmit and receive data at speeds up to 11Mbps at a range of up to 90m. The company claims that the cards have been designed with low power consumption features to minimize battery drain. Security encryption keys are also included.
