STMicroelectronics offers a Bluetooth human interface device (HID) chipset and software that allow mobile keyboards to work with STBs and mobile phones.

Priced below $15, the chipset combines the company's STLC2150 Bluetooth RF transceiver and its STLC2410 baseband with Bluetooth HID profile software.

Steve Beckers, ST's Bluetooth marketing director, noted that traditional wireless keyboards use proprietary protocols at both the keyboard and host side, an arrangement that he said limits the solution to point-to-point applications between paired devices. In contrast, a Bluetooth HID keyboard can interact with any other Bluetooth HID system.
