Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd has announced that the company will invest a total of $169.5 million to launch a commercial production of active matrix full-color organic electroluminescence displays (OELDs) at SK Display (SKD) and Tottori Sanyo Electric. SKD is an OELD manufacture joint venture that Sanyo established with Eastman Kodak in December 2001. Sanyo holds a 66 percent share of the joint venture.

Plans call for investing $84.7 million in organic film process at SDK, and $84.7 million in low-temperature polysilicon TFT panel production process at Tottori Sanyo. Sanyo expects monthly OELD panel (2-inch) output capacity to total 1 million units by year-end.
