Microsemi dc/dc chip runs at up to 600kHz

Microsemi Corp.'s LX1672 high-frequency multiphase dc/dc controller chip is aimed at DDR termination, multi-output power supplies, video card power supplies, and STB applications.

The chip, which is the second device in the company's LoadShare series, operates at 300kHz, 500kHz, or 600kHz, has up to three independently regulated outputs from a two-phase PWM controller and a linear regulator driver. Each PWM phase can deliver sufficient drive for external MOSFETs delivering up to 15A at an output down to 0.8V from a 3V to 12V input while the linear regulator can deliver up to 5A.

The two voltage-mode PWM phases can be configured for either a single biphase high-current output or two independently regulated outputs.

The LX1672 is available in a 24-pin TSSOP or MLPQ surface-mount package. The device is priced at $1.38 and $1.44, respectively, in 10,000 pieces.
