Pirelli mini-cables maximize duct utilization

Pirelli Telecom Cables and Systems has expanded its blown fiber and cabling portfolio with the introduction of its mini-cable systems, delivering between 12 and 72 fibers per cable.

This allows operators to maximize the utilization of existing ducts by installing small-diameter mini-ducts and their corresponding mini-cables. Most common applications involve mini-ducts with 16mm, 12mm, or 10mm diameters deployed within an existing mains duct.

"As part of our continuing research program over the past two years we developed and manufactured a range of small diameter cables that are optimized for installation within a wide range of mini-ducts," said Richard Thomas, Marketing Director, Pirelli Telecom Cables and Systems. "Our new mini-cable portfolio can also release hidden capacity in ducts that an operator previously considered fully occupied."

Mini-cables are considerably smaller than their conventional counterparts but have the properties that enable them to be blown up to 2km.
