RF Solutions Inc. has introduced the RFS P2023 power amplifier (PA) suitable for use in both 802.11b and 802.11g applications. The device is designed to achieve maximum linearity and efficiency for both WLAN standards, thereby significantly improving signal range while extending system battery life.

For 802.11g, at a data rate of 54Mbps and an output power of 19dBm, the P2023 has an error vector magnitude <3 percent and consumes 135mA. In the same configuration, the PA is claimed to meet all 802.11b adjacent channel power ratio requirements at 23dBm output while drawing 220mA of current.

Available in a 3-by-3mm LPCC package, the PA operates from a single 3.3V power supply and is fully matched to 50 ohms at input and output. It is also equipped with an on-chip output power detector that provides a simple single-ended voltage feedback indicating the precise operating output power. In addition, the PA is equipped with a sleep mode feature limiting the current consumption to <1?A.
