SiGe Semi PA suit 802.11b/g systems

SiGe Semiconductor Inc. has announced the availability of the SE2529L multi-mode power amplifier (PA) that specifically targets 2.4GHz WLAN systems compliant to the IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g (draft) specifications.

A member of the company's RangeCharger product line, the three-stage PA delivers 18dBm of output power while meeting an adjacent channel power ratio (APCR) of -29 (11MHz offset) and -43 (20MHz offset) in 802.11g mode. In 802.11b mode, the device delivers 23dBm at an APCR <32dBc on the first side lobe and <50dBc on the second side lobe.

The higher output power ensures higher data throughput over a longer range and solves the problem of previous PAs that were required to reduce output power to avoid crossing over to FCC-restricted bands.

The SE2529L achieves the output performance with a SiGe architecture suited to meet OFDM implementations. The architecture also features a market leading 32dB of gain and an error vector magnitude that complies with the IEEE 802.11g (draft) specification. The SE2529L consumes less than 200mA while transmitting at 54Mbps data rates.

The SE2529 is sampling in 4-by-4mm, 12-pin LPCC packages and is priced at $1.08 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
