Motorola Inc. has acquired the assets of NetPlane Systems Inc. - a unit of Mindspeed Technologies, the Internet infrastructure business of Conexant Systems Inc. NetPlane will be working closely with the Motorola Computer Group which provides hardware and software for next-generation networks and embedded computing applications.

NetPlane develops products for next-generation Internet and other data communications and telecommunications networks. With the acquisition, equipment providers are expected to be able to reduce integration time and costs by purchasing standards-based control plane software, hardware building blocks, and pre-integrated platforms from one vendor.

The Motorola Computer Group will continue to expand NetPlane's source code business and support its customer base of about 300 OEMs worldwide. NetPlane's operations in Massachusetts, U.S.A. and Hyderabad, India will continue under the Motorola Computer Group.
