Xanoptix rolls "inside-out" heatsink

Xanoptix Inc. has introduced an "inside-out" heatsink that features a multitude of intersecting passageways allowing for air or fluid to flow from a number of directions.

This structure enables the heatsink to exhibit 40 percent greater heat dissipation and a 50 percent reduction in weight than conventional heatsinks that utilize the same materials and dimensions.

The "inside-out" structure of the heatsink is also claimed to provide a bigger surface area and more than twice the mechanical stiffness of traditional heatsinks.
