U.S.-based Catalyst Semiconductor Inc. has launched its first international product development center in Bucharest, Romania. Catalyst is a developer and marketer of programmable products used in telecommunications, networking systems, computation, automotive, industrial, and consumer markets.

Initially, Catalyst Semiconductor Romania SRL (CSR) will focus on design, characterization and test development for some of Catalyst's memory and mixed-mode products. Eventually, CSR will take on additional responsibilities such as developing product applications and providing technical customer support for the European market.

CSR has leased 6,000-square-feet of space in a new office building in Bucharest, Romania - where operations are expected to start this month as soon as all the required equipment has been installed.

"This new Engineering Center will enhance our product development capability and help us introduce new products faster. By filling our need for highly skilled employees in lower cost locations and providing them with the necessary tools to succeed, we can maximize the return on our R&D investment," said Catalyst president and CEO Gelu Voicu.
