The 85011 Planacon microchannel plate (MCP)-based photomultiplier from Burle Ind. Inc. provides a 6mm position resolution when used as a discrete pixel device while offering a spectral response of 165nm to 660nm.

The 12.9cm2 device has a profile <2.54mm thick and features an integrated voltage divider network. It uses MCP for electron multiplication and features 64 anodes to achieve the position resolution. Higher resolutions are claimed to be possible when charge-sharing with an alternate voltage divider network.

The device is also claimed to offer high time response, gain, and pulse linearity. Response uniformity over the 12.9cm2 active area is typically 1:1.5.

The 85011 Planacon is designed for specialized medical imaging, ring imaging Cherenkov counters, fluorescence microscopy, and high-speed applications such as LIDAR.
