PLX Technology Inc., a supplier of interconnect silicon and software, and Rambus Inc., a developer of chip-to-chip interface products and services, have inked a collaboration and licensing agreement for advanced PCI Express I/O technology.

PLX is developing its recently launched PCI Express bridging and switching chips using Rambus' serial link technology. PLX licensed Rambus' RaSer technology to enable 2.5Gbps, point-to-point serial interface connections required for PCI Express products. PLX is also developing a complete emulation and validation platform using the RaSer serial link technology and the PLX BulletTrain architecture.

This validation program is being developed to enable server, storage and communications system suppliers to build market-leading PCI Express-based systems in 2003. This collaboration is also anticipated to allow for the development of next-generation PCI Express standards in the 5Gbps to 10Gbps range.
