Modem-Art Ltd has rolled out its MA1000 W-CDMA programmable baseband processor, giving terminal manufacturers an upgrade path for their existing GSM/GPRS terminal designs to support multimode UMTS/GSM/GPRS modes.

The device is built around the company's Programmable Modem Engine core technology, which is a PHY processor designed for W-CDMA modem implementation. Its multiprocessing architecture allows the processor to keep up with 3GPP evolutions via software upgrades instead of hardware modifications. Currently, the MA1000 offers the most advanced 3GPP standard and is fully compliant with 384Kbps class of Release 99 and Release 4.
