Coherent purchases laser manufacturer

Coherent Inc., a provider of photonics-based solutions, has signed a definitive purchase agreement to acquire Positive Light Inc. for an undisclosed amount. Positive Light is a designer and manufacturer of advanced solid-state lasers for the scientific and industrial markets.

The transaction is expected to close on or about March 31, 2003.

"The combination of Positive Light's award winning lasers for metrology, amplification, spectroscopy, and a host of other applications combined with Coherent's reputation within the photonics industry is the right fit for both companies," commented Jeremy Weston, President of Positive Light.
