Hittite Microwave Corp.'s 0.5W HMC455LP3 and 1W HMC461LP3 GaAs InGaP HBT MMIC amplifiers have been developed for PCS/3G wireless infrastructure applications from 1.7GHz to 2.5GHz. The devices offer wideband-CDMA channel output power of 19dBm and 20dBm, respectively at -45dBc adjacent-channel power.

The 0.5W unit provides 13dB of gain and 28dBm of saturated power at 56 percent power-added efficiency from a single 5Vdc supply voltage. This MMIC amplifier is said to utilize a minimum number of external components, has high-output IP3 of 42dBm and a low voltage SWR of 1.4:1.

The 1W model offers the linear performance of two HMC455LP3s in a single IC, yielding an output IP3 of 45dBm. It can be configured in a balanced or push-pull amplifier circuit providing 12dB of gain and 30.5dBm of saturated power at 48 percent PAE from a single 5Vdc supply voltage.

Both units are packaged in low-cost, leadless QFN 3-by-3mm surface-mount packages that provide an exposed base, resulting in what the company said was excellent RF and thermal performance. Per-piece pricing is $2.95 in quantities of 10,000 pieces.
