Toshiba Corp. has announced the development of a fiber-optic receiver and transmitter devices that are specifically designed for use in high-speed automotive LAN applications.

The TOTU133 (transmitter) and TORU133 (receiver) are part of the company's TOSLINK fiber-optic product portfolio and operate at temperature ranging from -40C to 85C, while delivering a data rate of 125Mbps. The TOSLINK series of signal transmission devices converts digital electrical signals into optical signals.

The transmitter incorporates a high-speed InGaP red LED and driver circuit, while the receiver has a photodiode and waveform-reshaping circuit on a single chip. Interface is 3.3V PECL for both devices, enabling easy connection with peripheral circuits. In addition to a 125Mbps data rate, the TOTU133/TORU133 can be operates at 150Mbps.

The devices are available in 6.3-by-6.9-by-2.3mm packages. They deliver an output power between -7dBm to -3dBm and have a minimum receivable power of -22.5dBm.
