GFI has launched the LANguard Network Security Scanner v3.1, which automates security patch updates and the addition of service packs to remote machines, with minimal user intervention. Its previous version, v3.0, only performed automated security patch updates.

Designed to conduct network security audits, the software ensures that the latest security patches are installed by scanning each network machine and identifying missing patches and service packs.

The latest version scans the entire network and provides administrators with a report detailing possible avenues of attacks. The LANguard N.S.S. can provide information regarding open shares, open ports, services/applications active on the computer; the status of key registry entries; and the presence of weak passwords. It can also detect potential Trojans installed on users' workstations and determine if the OS is advertising too much information outside the network.

Pricing starts at $249 for the commercial version. For non-commercial use, the product remains a freeware and can be downloaded at GFI's website.
