VIA licenses Sensaura 3D audio technology

VIA Technologies Inc., a developer of PC core logic chipsets, microprocessors, and multimedia, optical storage, communication, and networking chips, has licensed Sensaura Ltd's audio technology. In combination with VIA's AC'97 Codecs and Envy line of Audio Controllers, Sensaura's audio technology is expected to be able to maximize a gamer's immersive environment for greater realism.

The licensed Sensaura technology includes the Sensaura MacroFX, which creates "near-field proximity effects", the Sensaura EnvironmentFX that acoustically renders 3D audio environments, and the Sensaura MultiDrive, which integrates front and rear sound hemispheres.

"A significant benefit of this support will be that multichannel audio can now be enabled for the latest games with our AC'97 Codec solutions, as well as supporting the full range of 3D positional effects," commented Steve Chen, product manager for VIA.
