The SEZ Group has announced that they have taken steps to focus its resources on single-wafer wet surface preparation technology. This move includes the closing of its wet bench production facility in Donaueschingen, Germany - referred to as SEZ Germany, which was acquired by the Group in 2001.

The group will then shift its resources to SEZ's core business - patented single-wafer equipment for microchip production. To further facilitate this refinement, the SEZ Group reduced its global workforce by 20 percent from 750 to 600 employees worldwide. SEZ's staff reduction includes the closing of the Donaueschingen facility.

The Group's decision is not expected to negatively affect its IP and products developed by its California Research Center (CRC), which was acquired as L-Tech Technologies last year. On the contrary, the elimination of the burdens associated with the commodity product line wet benches, is seen to provide new opportunities for SEZ to expand its customer base without having to compete in the low-margin wet bench equipment market.

As part of the withdrawal from the wet bench business, the SEZ Group will be required to depreciate assets, which include primary property, plant and equipment, and inventories.
