National Instruments Corp. has released the Piezo Tuning Wizard application for its LabVIEW software to enable motion control developers to tune and control piezo-based motors for high-precision applications such as semiconductor wafer alignment and biotechnology micro-array handling.

The application add-in gives developers the capability to eliminate unwanted velocity spikes, reduce oscillations, and reduce development time with a simple interface for characterizing and tuning piezo motors.

Devleopers can also use the tuning Wizard to take advantage of the static friction compensation feature in the NI-Motion 5.2 driver software. This allows the creation of high-precision piezo motors that eliminate static friction, thereby improving steady target positioning and improving reaction time.
