Broadcom Corp. has selected SiGe Semiconductor Inc.'s RangeCharger wireless technology to be integrated into its latest WLAN reference designs.

Based on the IEEE 802.11b wireless networking standard or sometimes referred to as Wi-Fi, the reference designs combine Broadcom's BCM2051/BCM4301/7 chipset with SiGe Semiconductor 's SE2520L power amplifier to provide a three-chip architecture for WLAN systems. The designs are supplied in PCI and MiniPCI card formats which are expected to enable cost-effective broadband wireless capability in desktop and laptop computers, access points, handhelds, and PDAs.
