Sarantel releases SMT GPS antenna

Sarantel Ltd has released a surface-mount version of its active GeoHelix miniature GPS antennas for use in portable and handheld GPS applications, as well as cellular handsets.

The GeoHelix-S measures 48.5-by-14.6-by-13mm and operates on the GPS L1-band (1.57542GHz). Unlike conventional patch antennas, the Geo-Helix S is mounted directly onto the GPS circuit board and offers a beamwidth of up to 120.

Being a balanced antenna, it enables weak signals from the satellites are not de-tuned when the handset is close to human tissues. The device can also operate alongside other antennas without causing interference.

The antenna incorporates a 24dBi LNA and draw 12mA from a 3Vdc power supply. It will also be available in edge-mount and flex-mount versions. The edge-mount versions will have a choice of SMA or MCX male connectors, while the flex-mount versions will have a 100mm cable terminated in a choice of MCX, MMCX, SMA, SSMT, or Hirose H-FL male connectors.
