International Display Technology (IDTech) has announced the development of a fully functional prototype 20-inch full-color OLED display for use in computer displays and flat-panel TV screens.

Jointly developed with the IBM Research laboratories, the OLED display uses amorphous silicon, similar to that used in LCDs, instead of the more expensive polycrystalline silicon. The organic layers are fabricated on a substrate with an array of amorphous silicon TFTs. The display is claimed to exhibit improved color reproduction and high efficiency.

The 20-inch prototype is a top-emitting full-color active-matrix display with WXGA resolution. It consumes 25W at a brightness of 300cd/m?. Desktop display brightness is capable of exceeding 500cd/m?.
