Silicon Wave releases integrated Bluetooth v1.1 radio processor

Silicon Wave Inc. has introduced the UltimateBlue 3000 radio processor that combines a direct conversion radio modem with an ARM7TDMI processor core, Bluetooth baseband logic, and complete protocol software ROM in a 6-by-6-by-0.9mm, 96-ball BGA package.

Manufactured using the company's 0.18?m CMOS process, the 1.8V radio processor is compliant with the Bluetooth v1.1 specification and is field upgradeable to the upcoming Bluetooth v1.2 specification via optional Flash memory download.

Designed for use in mobile handsets, the IC operates over the extended temperature range of -40C to 105C and has a low out-of-band spurious emission transmitter that prevents blocking of sensitive RF circuits. For PC-centric applications, the UltimateBlue 3000 supports the company's Blue802 technology and the Intel Wireless Coexistence System.

The IC is also designed to support future enhancements to the Bluetooth specification including Adaptive Frequency Hopping and faster connection. It also has USRT, 3-wire UART, and USB 2.0 host interfaces, as well as a glueless PCM audio codec interface.

Other features include single-ended RF I/O that eliminates external balun and switch circuits, >-80dBm receiver sensitivity and up to 4dBm transmitter output power over extended operating conditions, and hardware-based AGC circuit to dynamically adjust the receiver.
