NEC optical transponder transmits to 80km

NEC Corp. has introduced the OD-J8967 10Gbps optical transponder that features a built-in semiconductor optical amplifier and is capable of transmitting data up to 80km.

Measuring 104-by-89-by-16mm, the device meets the mechanical and electrical requirements outlined by the 300-pin MSA for 10Gbps optical transponders. It also meets the Telcordia OC-192 LR-2b/ITU-T G.691 L-64.2b specifications.

In addition, the transponder is also a fully-integrated transmitter module comprising a modulator-driver chip, an EML chip, and Genoa Corp.'s second-generation, single-chip linear optical amplifier.

The company also announced the release of the OD-J8842 2.5Gbps SFP transponder and a pair of E-PON transceivers for optical access applications.

The OD-J8842 is packaged in a 56.5-by-13.5-by-8.5mm SFP module and is capable of long reach transmissions up to 40km. It meets the OC-48 LR-1/ITU-T G.957 L-16.1 specification and is suited for metro applications.

The transponder also features a fully-integrated transceiver module comprised of a high sensitivity APD, bias generation circuits, and bias control circuits.

The OD-B1222-N21 and OD-B1222-L21 are 1.25Gbps transceiver modules for optical network unit and optical line terminal, suitable for Ethernet PON systems. Both have an integrated transceiver module comprised of planar lightwave circuits with WDM function loaded with a LD and a PD. They are also loaded with a burst-mode transmitter LSI and a burst-mode receiver LSI that supports 1.25Gbps data transmission.
