Chipcon AS, a provider of standardized and customized ICs, has signed a contract with the cardiology ultrasound centre of GE Medical Systems - GE Vingmed Ultrasound. The contract is for the design, production and component delivery of a new mixed-signal ASIC by Chipcon to GE Vingmed. The design contract itself is reportedly worth $1.3 million.

"Chipcon has completed numerous successful ASIC projects and was assigned the contract due to its extended expertise in all aspects of IC design and especially the expertise to design analog circuitry," said Anders Wold, general manager GE Ultrasound Cardiology. "Chipcon was able to commit to our tough time schedules and we have every reason to expect this program to be a success."
