The TSOP34838SS1A IR receiver module from Vishay Intertechnology Inc. is capable of operating on supply voltages down to 2.4V at a distance of 35m and is intended for IR remote control systems in toys, TV receivers, DVD players, VCRS, and STBs.

The module measures 6.95-by-6-by-5.6mm and integrates a photo detector and preamplifier. It also features integrated automatic gain control to suppress light-source disturbances and internal shielding against electrical field disturbances. The module's epoxy package doubles as an IR filter. An internal band filter allows PCM frequency operation.

The device can operate with all common data formats, featuring a maximum data rate of 1Kbps with a suitable burst length of at least 10 cycles per burst. A demodulated output signal that can be directly decoded by a microprocessor facilitates the use of the module in multimedia applications. The new receiver module is specified for supply voltages ranging from 2.4V to 3.6V and is TTL- and CMOS-compatible.
