Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, a Hitachi Ltd business unit, and LSI Logic Corp.'s Storage Standard Products division have agreed to coordinate their respective product development efforts to speed up the delivery of the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) technology.
The SAS standard defines a device-level enterprise storage interface incorporating SCSI backward compatibility, serial point-to-point interconnections, dual porting, increased addressability and the ability to scale to small form factors. Hitachi Global and LSI Logic are both founding members of the SAS Working Group.
The companies intend to share design implementations, performance testing results and debug information, as well as participate in other joint activities. LSI Logic plans to use the LSI Logic Fusion-MPT (Message Passing Technology) architecture to simplify and speed development. Hitachi for its part, will integrate its 3Gbps Serial Attached SCSI-based HDD products into its enterprise storage product line as customer demand increases for the new technology. |
