Billionton modem provides Bluetooth access

Billionton System Inc. has announced the release of the BT56R 56K modem that features Bluetooth functionality, enabling it to be plugged into any telephone ports and used by Bluetooth-enabled PDAs and PCs in SOHO environments for a wireless, dial-up Internet connection.

Based on Cambridge Silicon Radio's BlueCore V.90 Access reference design, the BT56R offers Class 1 Bluetooth performance with a range of up to 100m. It supports a frequency hopping Bluetooth protocol and supports a data rate of up to 732Kbps.

The V.90 modem is capable of 56k internet connection and has a fax transfer send and receive rate of up to 14.4Kbps, in addition to communications software that is compatible with AT commands. Other features include flow control and speed buffering, automatic format/speed sensing, and a built-in RS-232 connector for Host interface.

Measuring 96-by-64-by-22.1mm, the BT56R operates from a 5V supply and draws a maximum current of 220mA. At standby, it draws 52mA. The device also provides LEDs to show status information and is screened for operation over the 0C to 50C temperature range.
