CML Microcircuits (UK) Ltd has announced the availability of the CMX823 programmable paging decoder IC for use in two-tone and 5/6 tone pagers, tone alert radios, selective calling systems (SELCALL), and voice pager switching/signaling systems.

The audio tone decoder is capable of detecting tones under all signaling conditions to ensure emergency tone alerts are received while significantly increasing the alert system coverage area. It supports user defined tones from 280Hz to 3.5kHz and allows users to create their own tone frequency 'alphabet' to support standard and non-standard tone paging and radio systems.

The CMX823 can detect up to 32 user defined tones to support a large population of receiver addresses. Both fast and slow measurement modes are available to support popular tone signaling protocols. Available outputs include "tone decoded", "no tone", and "unlisted tone".

Available in 16-pin TSSOP and DIL packages, the CMX823 has a typical operating current of 0.75mA and is screened for operation over the -40C to 85C temperature range.
