Renesas to operate as independent LSI firm

Renesas Technology Corp. has announced that it has officially separated from Hitachi Ltd and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and has commenced operations as a separate LSI company. Renesas was initially established as a joint venture between Hitachi and Mitsubishi.

Renesas has also completed the integration its operations in North America and the European regions, resulting in the establishment of "Renesas Technology America Inc." and "Renesas Technology Europe Ltd." Additionally, 13 affiliated Japan-based companies have been incorporated including Renesas Technology Sales Co. Ltd and Renesas Solutions Corp., their respective sales and applications engineering companies, as well as eight overseas affiliated companies. Renesas' affiliated companies in Asia are slated for operations by July 2003.

Renesas offers an entire line of microcomputers, memories, multi-purpose ICs, ASICs, and discrete semiconductors. Further, Renesas offers a range of system LSI chips including system-in-package (SiP) for reduced large capacity, compact size chips with a fast development span-microcomputer cores, memory, analog, and logic one-chip technology.
