Falcon ac power source targets tough noise

Falcon Electric Inc. has integrated several power blocks common to the company's UPS to create its SVR series.

Billed as a highly regulated ac power source for lab and precision measurement equipment, high-accuracy motor speed controllers and equipment serving in harsh or polluted power environments, the SVR will hold output frequency to 60Hz 0.3Hz. That's useful when the device is powered by alternate mains sources such as generators, the company said.

Designed to surpass the performance of traditional tap-switching regulators with passive line-conditioning devices, the SVR ac voltage regulator line uses the company's front-end and online inverter topologies to regenerate a glitch-free 110Vac to 120Vac sine wave output from an 87Vac to 145Vac (nominal 120Vac) mains input.

Available in 1, 1.8, 2, 2.4, and 3kVA rack-mount models and operating at an efficiency of 86 percent (83 percent for the 1kVA model), the supplies feature voltage regulation to 2 percent. Total harmonic distortion for linear loads is <3 percent (<5 percent for nonlinear loads).

The SVR will provide 105 percent of rated load for 50s, and peak capability of three times its rated output for short durations. The active power-factor-corrected, surge-protected supplies are microprocessor based (RS-232 compatible) to coordinate such power-management duties as data logging, self-diagnostics, and remote shutdown.

Pricing is $975 each for the 1kVA model, $1,295 for the 1.8kVA model, $1,375 for the 2kVA version, $1,595 for the 2.4kVA unit and $1,795 for the 3kVA model. Quantity discounts are available.
