Agere Systems Inc. bills its Mars T LT multirate, multiprotocol line card chips for framing and mapping applications in metro and access networks as a single hardware/software platform that can be used in many line card designs, letting OEMs cut their software and hardware development time and costs.

The framer/mapper chips address optical-line and switch-fabric card, multiplexing and digital cross-connect card requirements for SDH, multiservice transport platforms and dense wave-division multiplexing platforms. The chips support SONET/SDH services, including OC-3, OC-12, and OC-48, and data services such as ATM, packet-over-SONET, and GbE-over-SONET.

The Mars2G5 T LT, Mars1G2 T LT, and Mars622 T LT are priced at $230, $150, and $100, respectively, in lots of 10,000. The Mars2G5 can be configured as a 4xOC-3/12 or 1xOC-48 SONET/SDH framer. The Mars1G2 provides a 2xOC-12 or 4xOC-3 SONET/SDH framer and the Mars622 T LT a 1xOC-12 or 4xOC-3 SONET/ SDH framer. All three have automatic protection switching and cross-connect circuitry.

The LT chips target DSL access multiplexers, wireless basestations, and routers. Agere said China's Fiberhome Telecommunications Technologies will use Mars2G5 T LTs in a multiservice-networking platform due this year.
