Charles Kau, EVP and spokesperson for Nanya Technology Corp., forecasts an increase in DRAM demand during Q2 of this year with the release of Intel's next-generation Springdale chipsets. Nanya Technology is gradually increasing its DRAM capacity on a monthly basis.

The company's output was 1.2 million units in January 2003 and 13 million pieces in February, according to Kau. The projected average monthly output for Q2 this year ranges from 16 million to 17 million units. "Our DRAM output will reach 20 million 256Mb units per month by the end of this year," said Kau. The growth comes from the use of an advanced 0.14?m CMOS process at the company's plant I and plant II, increasing the plants' combined monthly capacity from 63,000 8-inch wafers to 73,000 wafers.

Nanya is focusing on DDR400 units designed for use in graphic cards. These units accounted for 30 percent (5 million units) of the company's total output last month, according to Kau.
