Two 14-channel T1/E1/J1 PHY line-interface units (LIUs) from Exar Corp. are reconfigurable, with integrated terminations supporting all common T1/E1/J1 line impedances (75, 100, 110, and 120 ohms).

Two of the XRT83L314 (long-haul and short-haul) or XRT83SL314 (short-haul) devices provide 28 channels for multiplexing/demultiplexing, whereas three 8-channel and one 4-channel LIU would otherwise be needed, according to Exar. The LIUs are intended for use with Exar's T1/E1/J1 framers.

The LIUs are said to meet or exceed ITU G.703, G.775, ANSI T1.402, and Bellcore GR-499 core specs. A parallel microprocessor bus supports synchronous and asynchronous interfaces for Motorola, Intel, and MIPS processors. The two crystal-less jitter attenuators per channel can be configured in the transmit and receive paths simultaneously.

Samples are available now in 304-pin TBGAs. In 1,000-piece volumes, the 83L314 sells for $83.55 and the 83SL314 for $65.77.
