WEDC Flash memory offers simultaneous R/W operation

The W72M64XV-XBX 2Mx64, 3.3V Flash memory device from White Electronic Designs Corp. (WEDC) allows simultaneous R/W operation, which enables data to be continuously read from one bank while executing erase of program functions in another bank.

Packaged in a 13-by-22mm, 159-ball PBGA package, the device saves up to 70 percent of board space compared to discrete approaches and reduces I/O connections by up to 21 percent, while providing reduced traced lengths for reduced parasitics.

The device offers access times of 100ns, 120ns, and 150ns, and consumes 180mA in active mode and 20mA in standby mode. Individual chip select and write enable functions allow the user to configure the W72M64XV-XBX to 4Mx32 or 8Mx16. It is screened for operation over the commercial, industrial, and military temperature ranges.

Data protection features include a low Vcc detector that automatically prevents write operations during power transitions. The hardware sector protection feature disables both program and erase operations in any combination of the sectors of memory.
